We had a short lab session today due to
the lecture test. After the usual preparations of donning a lab coat,
washing our hands, and wiping down our stations, we retrieved our
streak plate, slant, and broth. They were all checked for sufficient
bacterial growth and proper preparation. All passed. After everyone
had their cultures checked we gathered around to view the results of
the T4 bacteriophage infected culture that was prepared the day
before. Where the virus was applied, there were clear patches called
plaques.
These plaques indicate regions of bacterial cell infection/death. After observing the infected Petri dish we returned our group's cultures to storage in the fridge and wiped down our benches, washed our hands, and hung up our lab coats.
